I’m a production journalist working full time at ITV News Meridian. I have particular interests in politics, aviation and defence.
This site is my personal portfolio, where I showcase my best work and blog about stories I’m interested in (my #avgeek blog posts are here).
As production journalist at Meridian, I work across a wide range of bulletin production shifts, managing our digital content, planning the following day’s stories and also acting as news editor.
As news editor, I am responsible for identifying stories for broadcast and leading the process to gather the necessary elements for the programme. This involves verifying and developing sources, pitching ideas to senior colleagues and negotiating and agreed strategy for the days programme, balancing the wants of programme makers with available resources. It requires quick decision making and an ability to identify new lines of enquiry at high speed.
Before starting my current role, I was the ITV News Trainee at Meridian – one of 12 successful trainees picked from a pool of 1200 applicants.
I have experience as a podcast producer, having worked with the Spectator podcast team on the following projects:
- Spectator’s 190th Birthday
- The Diversity Trap
- Coffee House Shots (5 examples are linked here – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
- Spectator Books
- Holy Smoke
I’m a radio presenter with Airshow International Radio, fronting their drivetime coverage for the world’s biggest airshow, the Royal International Air Tattoo. It’s a wide and varied role; An average day might consist of an early morning interview with a senior RAF officer, followed by vox pops with punters arriving at the show, before spending the afternoon talking to Tim Peake about flying in a display with the Red Arrows – all before spending two hours in the hot seat presenting on 87.7FM after the show has ended for the day.
I’m also a proud volunteer with the RAF Air Cadets and a long suffering fan of Coventry City FC!
